MY CROSS
By Rick Mathes
Matthew 10:38 And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.
There are several possibilities of what is meant by “his cross.” First of course is that it doesn’t say His cross so it must mean your cross of persecution, the cross of humility or the cross of your own personal sins. I believe it is the later.
Either we nail our sins to our cross or our sins will eventually nail us!
Look that Goliath in the eye, that major sin and kill it. Deliberately pick up your cross and die to that sin that is bullying you and the Philistines (smaller sins) will scatter. Get it over with. God so loved the world that He didn’t send a committee. He sent Jesus and He is not into arm-wrestling with you over your sins. When the Holy Spirit says “Stop that!” all He wants to hear from you is “Yes Sir!”
Boldly face that short-coming and quit hiding and dodging from it. It isn’t going to go away and the longer you enable yourself and find others of like mind to join you, it will haunt you and not give you a rest until you are sucked in one more time.
The sin might be one that lingers on in some degree like have a beer, smoking a joint or taking a drug. You will just have to endure the lingering temptations and fight the good fight of faith. The sin you have is the sin you want because if you didn’t want it more that you do want it you wouldn’t have it. (read that again) So the key is to want the Savior more than the sin and you will endure the devil’s best shot.
In fact, you should cheerfully resign yourself to the pursuit of holiness. When you whip Goliath of sin in your life you feel like King Kong unshackled. This freedom from the dungeons of sin allows you to whistle while you walk your talk. Or put in stronger terms, Satan better tremble in fear when you walk by because your Daddy is King of this universe.
Pick up His cross now and step into those bloody footsteps as He would in memory of Him until He comes back for His. Press ON!
